Learning new things from old comics:

I've learned so many interesting things from Golden Age comics.

For example, I've learned that Wesley Dodds is an idiot, who has horrid taste in clothes AND steals credit from his sidekick.

I've learned that Sandy Hawkins in contrast can dress and is a smartass.

Today though, I learned something brand new! Completely! It's not even Sandman related!

Actually, to be accurate I learned four things:

1. The Shining Knight's horse can "fly" underwater, without its wings getting water logged.

2. The Shining Knight can not only apparently breathe underwater, but full armor is no impediment!

3. The Shining Knight can spear submarines with his lance.

4. The Shining Knight is a badass.

An armed and armored knight on a flying horse who is time-displaced from King Arthur's Court. There's really one way to up the badassery there, and Grant Morrison found it when he introduced the new one.

Ahh...but if Ystin can spear submarines in full armor, on the horse, *under water* remains to be seen. :-)

    Hmmm...Aquaman v.s. Shining Knight?

Morrison's Shining Knight doesn't even compare to the greatness that is Sir Justin of Camelot, The Shining Knight.

I can't believe this even needs to be said. The superiority of Sir Justin is implicit.

Now, speaking as someone who positively enjoyed Infinite Crisis #7, I have to say that Sir Ystin leaping from her horse and CLOBBERING the Riddler shows she's well on her way to ULTIMATE BADASSERY!

Though Sir Justin standing down the General in the Seven Soldier's episode of JLU shows she's got a loooong way to go to catch up!

That's either an absurdly small lance or the midgetiest of midget subs.

Not to rain on the badass parade, or anything.

Nathan -- I'm sorry, but teenaged girls who cross-dress in full armor and hold their own are automatically more badass than any regular knight.

    It's a known fact.

Plus, she's pure & true of heart enough to carry and use Excalibur...

    Too...many...Freudian metaphors! Passing...out...

Did Sir Justin mistake the sub for some metallic sea monster or something? I love seeing time-displaced characters smashing infernal contraptions.

    anon: I'd read it...either Knight.

nathan: well, I think Justin's still got a few more badass notches under his belt, but Ystin's very young. Lots of time to catch up. :-)

    steven: Hee. Poor Riddler.

    jon: Shhh, it's cooomics.

ragnell: What if Justin wears a dress?

    ben: :-)

hale: Easy, easy. Deep breaths. Inhale. Exhale.

brandon: I'm embarrassed to say I don't recall. As soon as I remember which Adventure Comics issue I found it in, I'll tell ya. :-)

Can he fight in the dress?

There was one guy in a dress who beat up Sir Gaheris (in either The Squire, His Lady and His Knight or The Savage Damsel and the Dwarf), but Gaheris wouldn't fight back.

Well, he'd presumably learn real quick. :-)
