Because it's cool!

You know what I love? When comic books publish diagrams for team headquarters.

They're always so ridiculously complex and usually downright impossible. But that's what makes them awesome. Look at the diagram for the JSA headquarters for an example:

I mean, just consider for a moment the sheer size of that thing! I mean, sure it's base is a mansion...but it's not like Wesley was terribly opulent. What the heck would he and Dian need with that much space? That's what makes it all even better.

Though I really think there should be more secret passages. Secret passages are neat!

I love these things too - there's loads in the 80s Marvel handbooks and the Survival Guide to the X-Mansion from about 1990 is priceless.

As for how big the mansion is...maybe Wes and Dian had big plans for little sandy feet...

Ick. I hate diagrams. They're not storytelling.

It always bugged me that they make the museum bit so damn tiny, 'cause whenever it actually turns up in the comicbooks that thing is massive.

I wonder when the bowling alley went in?

This reminds me of the "Untold Legend of the Batman" which als had an awesome schematic of the bat cave circa '80's, both are totaly SWEET and fun to bask in 8-P

fidget: I agree totally w/ the museum issue ;)

Kal: if you have this out Saturday your wish will be my command -bows to yor coolness-

Agreed! I probably spent half an hour tediously looking back and forth between the legend and every part of the Justice League moon base labeled with little letters.
They're fun, but you have to wonder, "What were they thinking?" Seriously, why have a flying member's entrance when there's no shaft for quick access. It'd be easier to walk out the front door and hop into the air. :]
Plus I'm trying to figure out if that's two staircases, or one with a funky, nonfunctioning catwalk.
Never knew John renovated the place, though...or did they just throw that in?

I used to eat up all of those diagrams in the old Marvel Universe handbooks. I loved how it gave the thin veneer of plausibility to completely impossible stuff like Spider-Man's web shooters or the Baxter Building's corner rocket silo. I vaguely recall a guy named "Elliot Brown" attached to many of those wonderful diagrams and schematics.

For whatever reason, the DC "Who's Who" handbooks didn't do nearly as many diagrams or technical breakdowns...and I think they suffered a bit for that.

    rich: Hee maybe.

elayne: I like them in moderation. Not so much in the main story, but they can be fun in the secret files.

flidget: Real explanation? Sand turned Wes's house into a TARDIS.

green: Might be a problem with Saturday. I'll get in touch later.

ektypic: John renovated the place in JSA 5. :-)

mark: The secret files tend to make up for the lack now. :-) They're great!

Mark: Eliot Brown's sole reason for living was to provide me with a blueprint for Doctor Spectrum's freaking Power Prism.

For those of you not paying attention, that's a diagram of a talking rock.

Eliot Brown is sainted in the heaven that is my memory.
