Beefcake/Cheesecake Appreciation Week: Day 2

Okay, today's panel is from JSA #32:

Power Girl in her underwear.

Yeah, it's a little gratuitous. But hey, at least there's a reason for her to be in her skivvies, as opposed to certain others.

What I like about the image is the, well, power inherent in her stance and in her frame. She might be sans clothing, but it's not phasing her. She's not embarrassed or awkward. She's matter-of-fact, confident without flaunting or posing, and no-nonsense without looking the least bit over-sensitive or over-defensive.

And her muscle tone! This is a woman who could kick your ass without breaking a sweat or a nail. I've always liked that about Power Girl. And in this image, it's really obvious how powerful a frame she has. She is built to support her always-admirable assets. Her hair is pretty too.

Also, last but not least. Her underwear is not only attractive but also ACTUALLY SENSIBLE! How cool is that?!

Ah, yes, I remember your concerns about 'sensible underwear' from that post about Montoya in 52...one of my favourite posts...:-)

Hey, check out the look on the owl's face...wanna bet he's a male...:-p

At least she looks as though she is actually getting some support, which is always a good thing. And I love that it isn't lacey. Peej shouldn't wear lace for heaven's sake.

Anyone in white spandex shouldn't wear lace. The pattern is going to show right through if the fabric is thin.

Note that in order to wear sensible underwear, you must cover up 95% of the skin that was covered up by the outerwear.

    chuck: :-) Totally male owl.

sallyp: I agree! Lace + Peej is wrong. (As is Lace + Montoya. Hence the earlier rant)

green: Well. It does add a certain...heft. :-)

brainfreeze: Not that that stops them. :-)

ragtime: The extra five percent makes all the difference.

As sensible as that underwear is, there is no way in hell it is fitting under that costume.

    Sensible support structures, hoorah!

...though I confess that at first glance, I didn't realize it was her UNDERWEAR. I thought she'd just succumbed to the dreaded Exposed Midriff Trend.

(The reddish shadows on the left side of her body looked like she'd thrown her cape over her shoulder, as she so often does. Really.)

Y'know, the "Back Problem" question is one that always comes up in these discussions of comic-book anatomy. It's a legitimate beef, but not in PG's case. The woman has Kryptonian Muscles, after all -- she could strap VOLKSWAGENS to her chest without a twinge.

She's not going to sag, either, for the same reason.

Those "sensible undergarments" aren't there to hold her chest UP. They're there to KEEP THEM FROM BOUNCING, which, Kryptonian or no, is from all reports uncomfortable and distracting.

You guys should make Beefcake/Cheesecake Appreciation Week an annual event.

mithel: Probably not. But it's nice she changed into that instead of lace lingerie. :-)

serpent: Hee. I'm just glad she's wearing something that looks like she *can* keep from bouncing.

As appealing as it looks, bouncing is not pleasant.

chuck: Sure just send it to r_nyalveis@hotmail.com

    anon: Maybe! :-)

That was a good PG scene with Dr. Mid-Nite. I like the way Johns portrays PG's self-awareness of her sex appeal & her own good humor and confidence about it.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to post one every day, but here's my Day 2 contribution, Kyle Rayner: The Power of Tighty-Whities

I promise if I post one tomorrow (which I'm going to try to do), it'll be CHEESECAKE!

And if that happens, then God help us all.
