So Stupid it's Awesome!

Okay. I confess.

I'm really excited about the Ghost Rider movie. I have no idea why, as I have NO familiarity with the character in question.

I think it's actually that one trailer line where Nicolas Cage is all "I feel like my head's on fire, but that's okay." Something about the line delivery makes me laugh every time.

And I'm not usually a Nicolas Cage fan.

I guess it just seems like one of those movies that go so far along the spectrum of stupidity, that they somehow manage to end up on the other side, into "awesome".

Between the concept, the repetitious awareness everyone seems to have about the stupidity of a guy with his head on fire, the tongue in cheek, modern day Western acting style, the motor cycle...Nicolas Cage...

Oh yeah. I'm gonna laugh my ass off and enjoy every minute of it. I can't wait. :-)

I am unexplainably excited to see it as well. And I am really surprised. I am certain it will be all kinds of suck...but I wanna see it.

I know a movie critic who was noting that they were not planning screenings for critics...normally he notes when studios do that, the film sucks and he doesn't care if he does not see it. But he mentioned he and his wife both want to go to this one. I mean...a guy with a flaming skull for a head! How cool looking is that?!

Well, you're a braver soul than I. And that's coming from someone who really loves the idea of having Death on a motor-cycle made of horse bones as the modern version of one of the 4 horsemen of the apocolypse.

    Why are you backing away?

You know, I feel the same way, based solely on the tongue-in-cheek, casual humor of the previews. Maybe it's just savvy clipping of the movie to pick out the chuckle-worthy moments, but hey, this looks like fun, something the oh-so-deadly-serious Elektra failed on miserably. I think Cage is a very underrated comic actor, and I do hope this is more than just another deadly-straight nineties-style stunt and FX fest. That's a lot of what helped make X-Men and X2 work.

There is just something undeniably awesome about a person with their head on fire. I mean, it's pretty much the only thing Firestorm's got going for him, and yet... it works.

    Well you know me.

I've had this day off of work since it was announced.

I blush to admit this, but I too will actually be going to see this. It actually seems to be a bit tongue in cheek from the promos. And really, the shot of him riding up the side of the building is just...amazing!

    And I kinda like Cage.

I had no intentions of seeing this movie, then the commercials started airing. Now I'm reconsidering. This thing may make it to "Snakes on a Plane" territory. I think it just might be wonderful in its awfulness.

It looks like a fun movie. Of course it won't be Citizen kane or anything. Just a good ol' cheesy, loud, comic book movie that doesn't take itself seriously and has awesome eye candy.

The funny thing about Nic Cage is that he never seems like anybody but himself. This movie will just feel like the actor Nicolas Cage riding around on a motorcycle and turning into a crazy flaming skeleton man. Then he'll turn back into actor Nicolas Cage.

I defy anyone to not enjoy that.

Actually, Nick Cage is a method actor, and had his head set on fire for each scene where he is Ghost Rider.
