Because It'd Be Cool...

I want a new Lois Lane comic.

I think it could be neat! Exploring Lois Lane as a reporter and getting into all sorts of trouble and getting out of it without necessarily always needing the Man of Steel for a rescue.

Mostly I just think Lois is neat enough to merit her own comic. She can be married to Clark and still have her own fun adventures, just like Superman can have his. Besides, it'd be really neat to have a comic with plots themed around investigative reporting in the DCU without using it as another excuse for spandex.

It could be fun, especially if it takes on a bit more of a mystery appeal. There's always a market for plucky female investigators. Veronica Mars was a very popular show and the new Nancy Drew movie is a good indicator that the market's willing.

Lois might be older than those protagonists, but that doesn't make her any less determined and plucky. Besides, it doesn't have to be centered around Lois TODAY, even, it could be Lois Lane as a teenager. We've seen a lot of Clark-as-a-teenager premises after all, why not his wife?

It'd be interesting because it's not a superhero comic exactly but it'd still be firmly entrenched in the DC Universe. (I love superhero comics, don't get me wrong, but there's also a lot of room in the shared universe for other genres aside.)

Lois has spunk and attitude, toughness and charm. She deserves more time in the spotlight.

Besides, considering how the Batclan has comic spinoffs up the wazoo, there's no reason Superman's cast can't do the same.

You can't tell me NIGHTWING is more deserving of his own title than Lois freaking Lane. :-)

I agree. I've been championing (very quietly) the idea of a Lois Lane - or perhaps a Daily Planet - book for a while now.

In fact, if Sean McKeever wasn't so damn busy...

Lois could be fun, but you must admit it won't be quite the same as the old Silver Age stuff, where she spends every issue trying to get Superman to marry her, or to score off of Lana.

Hmmm...I'm beginning to think I have a cunning plan here.

The modern Lois plays off other characters well, too. Like the Lois/Bruce Wayne team-up in a recent Detective, which was lots of fun.

And... hey, you know what might be fun, is if Lois has a wacky *friend* who has the Silver Age Lois' obsession about marrying Superman!

I'd love to see a good Lois Lane book. I think I Greg Rucka might have said he'd like to write one, but DC is wary of non-costumed DCU books.

A younger Lois in journalism school could be a viable series, couldn't it? You could even put a bit of a Silver Age spin on it...not the obsessive-marriage-scheming stuff, but the what-crazy-stuff-has-Lois-stubled-into-now trope. She tended to pick up temporary superpowers almost as often as Jimmy back in the day, and that sort of thing done tongue-in-cheek could make for a very funny story.

Rather than a full-blown series, I'd like to see a return of the back-up stories they used to run years ago. This way, different characters of (in this case) the Superman Family could get some spotlight. This would also be the ideal format to offer popular creators who may have have time in their schedules for a full 22 page story, much less an ongoing series.

So, definitely a Lois Lane backup, along with the predictable cast members, and maybe some off-beat backups as well, like Bizarro or Krypto.

Rather than launch into a full-blown series (which I have doubts could stay afloat), I'd like to see DC experiment with different formats and venues for its supporting characters.

    (sigh) I hate typos.

Here's how one of my paragraphs should have read:

"This would also be the ideal format to offer popular creators who may not have have time in their schedules for a full 22 page story, much less an ongoing series.

Perhaps they could have Lois as an ongoing in Birds of Prey? She had a run-in with Oracle at least once before, and was amazingly awesome.

I LOVE that idea! My girlfriend's a newspaper reporter and even on a slow day, she has funny, tragic, ridiculous, and/or interesting stories to tell.

In the course of her career she's been to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Panama, Germany, interviewed Klansmen, investigated train and helicopter crashes, and had her fair share of adventures even without some dude in a cape coming to bail her out of tough scrapes.

I've been dreaming about DC doing a Daily Planet series in a similar vein to Gotham Central. I think an exploration of journalism in the DCU woul dbe very interesting (and most likely very low-selling).

Hence the "back-up story" route. That way they could try out a few things to see what works and what doesn't. If there's a good response, maybe a mini-series could come of it.

I'm not really interested in a book just about Lois. But I'd be down with a Daily Planet book. Lois, Perry, Jimmy and the various other support characters I can't remember the names of. Of course it would probably last all of 6 issues or so, much like every other attempt to do a "support staff" book...

I'd love to see a Lois book, but a Daily Planet book would probably be more viable.

    Ah, so nice to dream....

I'd much rather see 'Lois Lane: Ace Reporter' than 'Lois Lane: High school student.'

How about a young adult Lois Lane landing a job at the Daily Planet and struggling to get the recognition she desires?

Lois Lane - sexiest woman in comics, how could a series about her not be a success?

I think a mini-series would work best back in the days before she knew that whatever she got into superman would save her. Maybe a series about her (much-maligned) reporting on Superman before he was Superman (ala Birthright)

Now there's a great idea! Lois, not being able to reveal that Supes is married, let alone to her, trying to discourage a rabid Super-groupie. Love it!
