Meme Revival: Ask Me a Question...

I'm going to resurrect an old meme for this one, mostly because I can. Also because it's fun.

Opening this up to anyone who reads my blog:

Ask me a question, any question. I'll answer it to the best of my ability.

I like seeing what you guys come up with. :-)

(...I'm going to feel awfully stupid if no one asks anything. :-P)

Which would you say you're more:

    a) Pretty?
    b) Fizzy?

    Show your work. :)

How did you get into comics in the first place?

(from a newbie lurker so sorry if you're been asked this before)

So...how many illegitimate children do you think that Hal REALLY has?

Does Batman pay Alfred Social Security and does he have some sort of pension plan?

Why does Ollie think that Snapper Carr is an idiot?

Why does Deathstroke think that Snapper Carr is an idiot?

Will Guy and Tora find true love?

Siskoid: I'm actually c) A Pair of Dice.

    :-)

Darcy: No problem. :-) I was a huge manga fan for about ten years, but never really considered American Superhero comics for a long time.

While on a study abroad program in Japan, I met Diamondrock who was, like now, mad into comics. He made them sound a lot of fun.

It took a few years, but eventually I broke down and bought a TPB (A Lonely Place of Dying actually, since I wanted a clear "starting point" with a character and the third Robin intrigued me). This was January 2005 or thereabouts. I quickly got into Green Lantern, and ultimately he convinced me to try JSA, and it kind of exploded from there. :-)

I really should have figured it out before hand. I like serial things, long winding stories, insane continuity and long histories (I used to be a soap opera fan), cheesiness, punching things...

I really was born to be a superhero comic fan. :-P

    sallyp:

Hal's illegitimate children are like stars in the sky. I know for sure he must have one, but the true number is simply unknowable. They will come when they are needed.

Alfred's got the best pension plan ever. Unfortunately, he is never allowed to retire. Bruce would totally waste away and die. So Alfred can't use it.

    Ollie recognizes his own kind?

Deathstroke thinks everyone is an idiot. :-)

Yes. And hopefully even with each other. :-)

If you had to create a superhero team based on the 7 dwarves who would be who?
Doc (Dr. Mid-nite?), Grumpy (Batman?), Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, Dopey (Kyle?).

For extra credit show your work :)

Doc would indeed be Doc Mid-Nite.

Grumpy would however be Guy Gardner, as he's that sort.

Happy would of course be Hal, for obvious reasons, mostly revolving around "Mr. Happy." Which is his lame pet name for...something that gets a LOT of exercise.

Bashful is Batman, mostly based on all those Urban Legend stuff. And also because the real reason he didn't go to the wedding was because he was shy.

Sneezy is Booster Gold due to some unforeseen mishap with sneezing powder.

Dopey is actually J'onn, but never to his face. :-)

I like Batman as bashful - nicely done!

Ok....how about casting the new Star Trek film using only DCU characters?

    I've got a doozy:

Through a strange mishap, Guy Gardner is thrown into the Earth-616 universe. He eventually joins the Avengers, and at one point is named team chairman.

Which Avengers does he pick for his team?

Who'd win in a fight: Squirrel Girl, or Bueno Excellente?

    Also:
Nextwave: Great comic, or the greatest comic?

Kalinara - you forgot Sleepy in your dwarfs list.

Also, if Ma Hunkel and Batman's Aunt Harriet (as played by Madge Blake) got in a fight, who would win?

If you were assigned to come up with another type of Kryptonite, what color would it be and what effect would it have on Superman?

If DC assigned you to edit a new Lois Lane solo series, what creative team would you pick (living creators only)?

It's Karaoke time! It's thanksgiving and the JLA/JSA are getting together like always and after turkey someone busts out a Karaoke machine.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it is to pick as many JLA/JSAers are you want, and tell me what songs they sing.

Dan: Anthony points out that I forgot Sleepy.

Sleepy is the Flash, since all the early post crisis issues seemed to have him keel over.

    As for trek...hmm...

Kirk would be Booster Gold, since in my head, he's got a Shatnerian quality.

Spock is really smart and a science officer and kinda emotionally restrained, so I'll make him Mr. Terrific.

Dr. McCoy is cranky and Southern and needs a medical degree, so I'm stealing Soranik from GLC.

Uhura is the communications expert with the stellar legs, so I'm going with Skeets.

Sulu is the...well, to be honest, much as I love George Takei, I have no idea what Sulu actually does on the ship. He's at helm, right?

Anyway, I guess I'll make him Lady Blackhawke. Since she can fly pretty much anything.

Chekov is the poor red shirted ensign that doesn't die, though his shirt is yellow. (If two ensigns are turned into powdered cubes, one is crushed, the other is invariably Chekov.) I'll go with Tempest. Because I always got the impression his life sucked. :-)

Dan Coyle: Okay, hmm, well Captain America especially. He's all the good of General Glory and noneof the cheeziness.

I think he'd pass on Iron Man. Hank Pym'll be iffy, but Guy does have a background in psychology some, so he might take him on if he's got some way of being sure of him.

    Thor, definitely.

I think Spider Woman would make him nervous, a bit too Martika-esque. But he'd totally go for Ms. Marvel. I think he'd also like the Scarlet Witch pre-crazy. Vision's no where near as weird as the GLC guys, so probably him.

He'd either like Hawkeye or hate him and I haven't figured that out yet.

He might end up recruiting some of the younger characters too. Like Victor Mancha. Especially if he knows about the Victorious thing. He'd see it as helping a kid/fighting destiny. (He'd totally browbeat Reed, Tony, Hank and company into helping.)

Actually, I'm pretty sure both the Runaways and YA will be kept a lot close to home.

    He'd probably like Spider-Man too.

Anon: Hmm, Squirrel Girl I have to say.

    Eh, it's okay.

    Anthony: Thanks!

Hmm, probably they'd team up and beat up Bruce Wayne.

    Evan: Ryan O'Neal's breadbox

notintheface: Pastel blue kryptonite, it'd make him change all the curtains of any building he's in. And no one will understand why the blinds in the Daily Planet building are all replaced with festive floral print.

    r.nav:

Hmm. I'm gonna aim for stupid here. Let's just assume they're really REALLY drunk.

Hawkman and Hawkgirl sing Walk Like an Egyptian.

Batman sings "The Night has A Thousand Eyes"

Diana sings "Love is a Battlefield" (I always thought she could belt a mean Benetar.)

    Superman sings "From a Distance"

Wildcat sings "Bat out of Hell" solely to tweak his old student.

Power Girl gets "Heartbreaker" of course.

John gets ABBA's "Take a Chance on Me" (In contrast Hal gets "Dancing Queen". But he's tone deaf, I strongly believe)

Flash gets "One Way or Another" because Wally singing Blondie makes me laugh.

Sandy gets Barret's Privateers for reasons that only make sense if you're me.

Starman gets "It's the end of the World as we know it."

    ...

You know what, I've suddenly revealed WAAAY too much about my crappy taste in music.

At least there's no country on my list...

Except now I totally want Dinah, Oracle and Huntress to sing Goodbye Earl.

    ...

    Darn you, R.Nav.

Which DC and which Marvel character would star in a movie made about the story of your life? And what would the theme song be?

How do you pronounce the word "grange"? My friend and I can't seem to agree on it.

Is it wrong to give a bus transfer you don't need to someone waiting for the bus? The rules on the transfer say a transfer cannot be used by someone it wasn't issued to (although it's not enforced).

  • At October 01, 2007 1:30 AM, Blogger kalinara said…

Michael: Hmm, I'd probably go with Nick Fury and Snapper Carr.

The theme song would be: "Up There" from the South Park movie.

I have no intention of explaining why. :-P

jade: I say "graynge" as in rhymes with "range"

Nah. But then I always failed at being "lawful good" really really quickly.

I think Chekov was navigation, actually.

Who would win, Galactus or Mogo?

I think navigator and helm are separate positions?

All I remember is "Ahead Warp Factor whatever, Mr. Sulu" though, so I could be wrong.

My money's on Mogo. Because Mogo is awesome. <3

  • At October 01, 2007 9:49 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Yes, helm and navigation are two different posts, and Sulu was at the helm. I just thought I needed to clarify Chekov because you had him down as a "yellow-shirted redshirt", while he actually has a (potentially) very demanding and important position - for one thing, he's responsible for them not crashing into nebulas and the like.

I got the first JSA trade (Justice Be Done) based on your many posts about the awesomeness that is the JSA, and I very much liked it. What other JSA trades do you recommend? Any I should avoid? (I have JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice as well.)

Based off sallyp's question, what superteam-like name should Hal's horde of kids have?

ingvild: Oh yes, good point. I think he occasionally did weapons as well.

But he still was the not-crushed powder cube. :-P

bariman: They're all good honestly, and the nice thing is, pretty much the whole run is compiled sequentially AFAIK.

Well, I didn't much like Black Reign, but admittedly, that was more because my favorite character was dead during that period. :-)

...honestly I figured a lot of them would somehow end up in the GLC. :-P Somehow. :-)

Failing that, maybe we can name them helicopters, after the seeds from a maple tree that fly off and land pretty much anywhere. :-)

One of the greatest comic scenes ever would be Guy Gardner telling Spider-Man to chill.

Or, better than that, SHOWING him how to chill.

If you started writing Justice League of America tomorrow, who would be your Conway/Firestorm character? That is, what new character would you add to the JLA, that previously had not been a member?

Most writers do it, maybe just to shake things up, or because they love a particular character, or just to differentiate their run from everyone elses. That's how Firestorm, Aztek, and Manitou Raven got in...

Hmm, as tempting as it is to say Sand, that probably wouldn't work thematically.

(Though with Geo-Force already there, I'd totally have them hang out.)

I'd totally have him guest in a crossover though.

I'm not really fooling anyone am I? :-P

    Hmm, a pineapple?

Probably Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett and Tina Fey.

I wanna see the jokes/sketches that would come out from it in each of those ladies' creative heyday. :-)
