Two Unrelated Thoughts

Someday, in the not to distant future, little Milagro should totally be Earth's first "Teen Lantern".

I'm not entirely sure how it'd work in the Corps concept. Maybe as some sort of Earth-based trainee? Either way, it'd be freaking adorable!

---

Oh and on a completely unrelated note, I actually adore this Pink Supergirl costume. I mean, granted, it's nothing like Supergirl wears in the comic, but, well, who cares?

I'm sure I'd blogged quite a bit back when I worked at the toy store about how many little girls just snapped up any and all Supergirl related goodies. And how sad I was that I really couldn't recommend the Supergirl comic to any of the parents for their little girls. Admittedly, Supergirl's a LOT better now, but I'm still not sure I'd be ready to recommend it to little girls that age.

But heck. Girls like pink. Girls like Supergirl. The costume is cute, heroic, and doesn't show off way too much pre-pubescent body like a costume based on the comic would. I think I'd have adored a costume like this at that age. It's perfect.

I was all ready to groan and roll my eyes, but that actually looks awesome with the silver!

Mind you, as long as the skirt isn't blue, I'm not terribly fussed... Why would it be blue?! Superman's trunks are red! Juxtapose, damn it!

That dinner plate so looks like something Supergirl would use as a locket- if Supergirl became a mahou shoujo series.

You just etched Sailor Supergirl into my brain- I'll get your later.

I do second that Milagro should end up something- then again there are the other Lucky Charms lanterns, so if there isn't green, you can just shop for other colors of Lantern.

Oh heck, just dress Milagro up in the little pink Supergirl outfit and it would be so adorable that our brains would explode.

You just KNOW that at the barbecue afterwards, Guy made little green flying ponies for her.

In "Mosaic" there were Teen Lanterns, so there is precedent.

I also fail to see the outrage over the pink Supergirl costume. When I worked in the comics shop, little girls would snap up any comic featuring a female super-hero on the cover: Supergirl, Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Spider-Girl, Swamp Thing (though we did talk those parents out of that one). It's a play costume for little girls, not a political statement. Not everything in this big wide world is suitable for a post-Lacanaian deconstructive analysis from a Marixist/Feminist perspective.

Add me to the list of people who fail to see why a pink Supergirl costume is so evil. Yes, pink is a traditionally feminine color; but since when is everything traditionally feminine required to be viewed with suspicion as an agent of oppression? I like pink (granted, usually lighter tones) and so does my mother - that doesn't make either of us somehow less feminist. That outfit is pretty cute, too - like arstal said, it looks like Supergirl as anime magical girl.

(I don't get the Bratz hate on that post, either; but I used to collect them when they did fun stuff like the retro-themed line. Now they just do bland stuff, probably because of people assuming that Bratz dolls look trashy. That was the first line, they did much cooler stuff, and now thanks to people assuming the rest of their stuff look like the first line, we're stuck with flared jeans and blah ball gowns. Thanks, judgmental people who don't buy their kids dolls anyway.)

I'm pretty sure I would've *hated* that costume at that age- I was not only a little baby feminist, but an obsessive brat over details. It's pink! That's *not the right color*! But, hey, pretend you've never heard of Linda Danvers and it does look pretty cool.

Also, Milagro the Teen Lantern is possibly the world's best idea. I'm hoping Lian Harper will get into the Corps, too, if they ever let her grow up- it lets her keep on in the family business without, well, boxing-glove arrows. They can team up!

Y'know, I bet if they did a Supergirl and/or Wonder Woman comic book aimed squarely at little girls (say, 10 and under?), I bet it'd sell pretty decently.

I know my 5-year-old niece would love something like that!
