Monks in Fishnets

The conversation between Aheyweh and me on this post reminded me of something I always wished would happen in comics that I might have mentioned before.

I'd really like to see Connor Hawke follow in Black Canary's footsteps rather than Green Arrow's.

Mostly, I think it'd be neat. We rarely see boys follow in girls' footsteps and I've always thought Connor tended to be characterized as a better standard martial artist than he is an archer. It seemed like it would suit his personality and temperament more than following in Ollie's footsteps.

Also, while I don't personally buy the whole "redundancy" argument, this would nip that in the bud. Roy, as Red Arrow, gets to be Ollie's legacy/inheritor. Connor would get to be Dinah's sidekick/legacy. It's not like there are any other candidates for the role except possibly Sin, and she's too young. It'd stagger it nicely.

Of course, this might just be an excuse to stick Connor Hawke in fishnets. You decide. :-)

    I would *adore* to see Connor take on Canary's legacy. It *fits* him, far more than the Green Arrow legacy.

    Also, I would love to see him in the JSA. Boy needs a team, they're recruiting everyone with a hint of a legacy - Canary's his stepmother. It'd be awesome to see him interacting with that ever-expanding cast.

    Much as I do like the idea of Connor filling Dinah's fishnets, being a JSA member and generally being a martial arts hero instead of yet another archer, I think Mia fits the bill as a worthy Dinah heir.

    Why? Well, not just because she's a blonde - but because she's a smart, smartass blonde who doesn't put up with Ollie's BS.

    I just wish we had a writer who built up that kind of relationship between them instead of just magically having it happen...

    That's true, but I figure as Speedy, she's already in the Ollie - Roy legacy line. Connor's the odd one out, and he'd fit well with Dinah. Dinah ought not to have a sidekick/legacy exactly like her, after all. :-)

    I...I never even considered this before, and yet it does make a certain amount of sense. Connor is far to mature to be hanging out with Ollie anyway, he'd do much better with Dinah.

    They could even put him in Birds of Prey.

    Yeah, from my limited experience with the series- both ideas could work, but he'd probably wear leather pants instead of fishnets.

    Having a male take the legacy from a female hero is an interesting idea- wonder what other female heroes that would work well for. One problem is you really see few older female heroes.

    To be honest, I think the JSA would be a good fit for Connor. Does anybody else remember why he left the JLA? Because the things they dealt with on a regular basis were-in his opinion-too much. Something a bit more... Earth based could certainly work for him.

    And, you know, he has great legs. Every woman on the planet would be forever grateful if he ran around in fishnets.

    If there's ever any chance of it becoming actual canon, it might be a better idea to revamp Dinah's horrible eighties costume- you could pull a pretty decent two-tone jumpsuit out of that thing after you cut off the weird chest protrusions and ditched the kitten heels. And Connor could have warm legs.

    (Personally, though, I am all for the fishnets.)

    Mia would make a good Canary too, but I wanna see her as Green Arrow someday. Or Arsenal- Roy's not using it anymore, after all...

    This idea intrigues me. The legacy part, not so much with the fishnets. :P

    I do think it could work, but as Scipio's mentioned, the name issue is problematic. Wait, I got it - "Black Arrow"? Hmmmph. *ponders*
