I'm back! And reading! And maybe even blogging! No promises!

Oooo!

You know, I have a confession to make. When I read solicits and the like, I almost never actually look at or register the covers. Well, usually. Unless it's particularly neat and/or has Sand, because I like acknowledgment that my favorite character does actually exist.

So I didn't notice this upcoming teen titans issue until visiting Nevermore999's livejournal (I totally stole the picture from her too.)

In the corner there...is that Shining Knight?

If so, insert girly shriek here!

Shining Knight was my favorite Morrison revamp and I was really hoping to see her SOMEWHERE in the DCU damnit. If she does end up in Teen Titans, I'll have to add that series to my pull list for good!

I know McKeever's got mixed reviews, but honestly, I've read a lot worse for characters I liked marginally less than Ystin. :-)

I've read scans of McKeever's Teen Titans and all I can think is "What happened to the person who wrote The Waiting Place and Spider-Man Love Mary Jane?" Because its terrible. Also I think the odds of someone who is not Morrison using a Morrison original character are pretty damn low...

Well, scans are out of context, to be fair.

You're probably right about it being someone else though. Looks pretty feminine to me. What did happen to Little Barda?

Oh, I think its Shining Knight on the cover. I just don't think McKeever will end up using her. Or Klarion. Of Morrison original characters I think Willingham used Azael a bit on Shadowpact and thats about it. Oh Bullateer had a brief cameo in some of Simone's BoP group shots...

As for the others on the cover, Supergirl is supposed to be a big part of the Robinson Justice League Proactive team so she doesn't seem likely as a member (especially after McKeever or Johns or whoever it was had her storm off/get fired after a falling out with Wonder Girl)...

So that leaves Misfit (already part of BoP), Traci13 (may have left Shadowpact, not sure) and Spoiler. While I'd love to see Steph and Traci and Misfit (whose real name I forget) get more exposure this isn't the book I'd want to see it on...

As for the Titans East massacre, I think it was shown that only Power Boy actually died. So Lil' Barda (provided she wasn't actually a New God) should be ok-ish...

Really, right now, if they add characters to the Teen Titans I'd rather it be ones I dislike...

    Picture stealer! *shakes fist*

    Ha, kidding.

Though I threw a fit about the cover originally, I've calmed down now.

What happens, happens, and they won't kill Steph, and that makes her better off than she was before.

And I'll have to pick this up, so DC wins...this time!

I'd be very careful about wishing anyone I actually liked to be on this team, because I wouldn't want them to die horribly.

Come to think of it, I'd be very careful about wishing that any of my neglected favorites were revived in the DCU at all right now, for the same reason. It's a bloodbath over there.

buttler: I think if you look at any big event period, DC really isn't any more of a bloodbath now than it was during, say, Zero Hour. Or the original Crisis. Death in comics is hardly a new thing for all that we like to pretend it's so when denouncing Dan Didio.

Besides, akin to the "it's better to have loved and lost", a good death is much easier to reverse than a drop into limbo.

Heck, I'd be happy if Teen Titans just had a cast. It has become the opposite of JSA -- which I think has more than 22 members, guaranteeing that they will all average less than one page per issue.

Teen Titans has a cast of Robin, Wonder Girl, and . . . Kid Devil? Is Miss Martian still there? Is Blue Beetle official? Can anyone explain why Supergirl and Speedy aren't still members?

A team book needs a stable cast of more that "two people."

Sure, characters die, but Infinite Crisis and 52 were definitely a much gorier than previous event-period bloodbaths in mainstream comics, and that's the part that bugs me.

When someone got eviscerated in something like The Authority, it was a gruesome sendup of superhero comics. When you've got actual Golden Age creations like Black Adam and Superboy punching through heads and tearing people in two in mainstream, non-"mature readers" titles, I have a real problem with that.

So if I don't want to see Hoppy the Marvel Bunny vivisected, I just hope he waits this trend out in happy obscurity till it passes like those '90s mullets, pouches and big-ass guns.

    Here's the update, Ragtime:

The membership is four members: Robin, Wonder Girl, Blue Beetle, and Kid Devil, who just changed his name to Red Devil.

Miss Martian went on temporary leave in the issue I call "The One Where Wonder Dog Brutally Kills Wendy And Marvin And Sean McKeever Brutally Rapes My Childhood".

Jaime is officially a member (Poor Jaime!)

I have no idea why Speedy is no longer a member, but Supergirl is no longer a member because Wonder Girl is a massive tool.

Looking over the December DC solicits I'm reminded by the JLA preview that the Milestone merger is happening that month. And that I REALLY DON'T WANT Static being part of McKeever's Titans...

    RUN STATIC RUN!
