Egack!

Okay, you know what, I HAD a nice, well thought-out post all ready to be typed out (a rant about fantasy genre and a certain justification that annoys me) but then I saw this post by Dorian and well...

Warning, don't go click if you have a weak stomach. I'm not kidding.

But um. Look. I know I have my problems with the Ultimate universe. Many many of them. But...

There has to be some sort of context that can save this right?

(Potential hypocrisy/DC bias warning: I thought the hound chomping Wendy and Marvin was kind of funny. Something about the cannibalism aspect and the chicken joke makes this much much worse by my standards. Your Mileage May Vary.)

I think I'm going to take some Zantac and lie down and try to convince myself it's possible to unsee things. Good night.

In retrospect, this makes my whole post about Jan to be in very poor taste. I apologize. On the other hand, Mr. Loeb, that's just disgusting.

Is...is that the BLOB? He really WILL eat anything!

I saw that pic last night and had zero context for it - for some reason given the headline that Dorian gave it, I thought it was from something when Jemas was in charge and the title was supposed to be ironic. (Didn't Ultimate Hulk eat a bunch of people when he first showed up? I think that happened off panel though).

Is that supposed to be Janet van Dyne? And is that the Blob? And who's the guy in the purple mask with the eyepiece at the edge of the panel? And is this Ultimatum thing going to be a giant "snuff performance piece" where they get to kill all the various Marvel heroes in exciting new ways? Yay. I think I'm glad I stopped reading most of the Ultimate line at this point...

My first thought when I saw that panel was, "Wow, Loeb really hasn't paid any attention to past characterization."

SallyP: Nah, your post is fine and very funny. THEY'RE the ones that made the bad taste.

Jer: I have no idea of the context. It certainly LOOKS like the Blob eating Janet Van Dyne though.

Glad you like the blog R.t.M! I did warn you about the link!

Everyone else: I echo your sentiments.

Gah. That's just vile. Also, incorrect. People taste more like pork than chicken, hence the "long pig" cannibal thing.

    Uh, or so I'm told.

You did warn me. I am glad I am no longer collecting any Marvel titles now. It just gets weirder and weirder at the House of Bad Ideas.

Wow, that's worse than Marvel Zombies! At least the zombies are, y'know, zombies, so they have an excuse. And the art style makes it seem more surreal than this... thing, which is very clean and clear and right in your face. (Also, the tastes like chicken joke is so cliche and unfunny that I can't even call it poor taste. It's beyond that.)

Marvel, when your regular titles -- even trendy edgy Ultimate ones -- are worse than a book about superpowered zombies who eat everyone in the universe, it's time to step back and evaluate the comics you're putting out.

Well I clearly have no taste or sense of decency because I'm entertained by that picture. Granted, I don't read Marvel and say if was done by DC with characters I like I might be offended.
As it is, I'm all for gratuitous grossness.
