A Thought.

You know what I'd really like to see now that Toro is back from the dead?

I want to see Cyclops ask for his autograph.

I mean, seriously, Xavier would have totally milked that inspirational story: one of, if not the first, publicly recognized mutants. Respected. War hero. Very destructive power, but found direction through serving his country.

It seems like the kind of story Scott would totally take to. And it'd be nice to see a) Toro get some recognition for once, and b) Scott get to be age-appropriate for once and fanboy a little.

It'd be cute!

Was it ever publicly acknowledged Toro was a mutant, though? Was the term even floating around back then? If it wasn't, how would Prof. X would have known?

I thought it was. Everyone seems to take it as fact in the Torch mini at least.

And really, I think Xavier's the sort of guy, especially back pre-X-Men to have gone and investigated any use of special powers in the past to see if it might be mutancy. (Jim and Namor were also still around to confirm or deny.)

Heck, depending on if Toro's death rolled back or not, Xavier could have met the guy and found out that way. :-)

In Torch, Tom's acting like it was not something hidden. I thought it was something that wasn't known during the war but was known at least before his death and made it to the history books. I'd have to reread the "Sage of the Original Human Torch" but I've seen no indications it was kept a secret after that heart surgery story in Invaders.

In A/I the SHIELD scientists and Wolverine seem to already think this and are confirming it by actually looking at (or smelling) him, rather than being surprised with the discovery. Wolverine seems to offer it as a "there's lots of others like you" branch to him.
