Query

Dumb question: but can Tim Drake fly now (I mean, in the reboot)? Because that's the only way I will ever be able to rationalize the feathers without laughing my ass off.

Well, let's be honest, I'll laugh anyway, but at least I'd know there was a purpose.

(At least he didn't mimic Dick's disco collars?)

    I ... um ... I ...

    ... actually like the Tim-suit.

It's the only reboot redesign I DO like.

Well, except for Static. But somehow, Virgil can make any variation on his core themes work. He's like Batman that way.

Tim needs the feathers for something more important than flying...
It's so he can be fabulous!

    Your Obedient Serpent:

    I won't mock your taste. :-)

I do think however that unless the feathers have a purpose, the design seems really really out of character for Tim.

Now, DICK can and has gotten away with much stupider, so if HE were wearing the feathers, it'd be...still pretty funny, but a lot more plausible to me. :-P

Fuck I hope not. That means Tim will just be turning into Dick and that is not something I want. I mean, I'm buying the Nightwing book anyway!

How would flying make him more like Dick?

Stupid feathers, sure. But I don't remember Dick ever being able to fly with them.

Dick used his silly wings to glide with didn't he? Please tell me I haven't just imagined this..

I assumed when you wrote fly you meant glide. if you didn't, apologies.

    I did mean glide. :-)

I don't recall Dick with gliding wings on any Nightwing/Robin costume though. He did have feathers, but those were more...showgirl-esque than functional.

:-) I don't think he used gliding wings enough to claim some sort of identity monopoly on them at least.

I believe B:TAS Nightwing had glider arm wing thingys...

Ahh, well, I guess if you count the animated series, that'd be a deterrent.

    I don't though, so I'm fine with it. :-P

Dick wore his old (Knightfall era) suit to glide during Infinite Crisis, But I don't remember him gliding much when he wore it back then. I liked the disco collar suit...because I have embarrasingly bad taste (and I still thing the "We're number one" suits are ugly)

I was talking about the comics, not the animated series. Although now we're discussing it I don't recall Dick gliding with his feather things, except for in Infinite Crisis.
I think I just associate that awful disco suit with the feather gliders and since it's possibly the worst super hero costume ever and Tim's new one is embarassingly similar, I think this means Tim might be morphing into Dick.
I'm not sure there's a real rationale behind this, other than that Dick's disco suit was awful, as it Tim's new one, and Tim now has stupid feathers.

Oh I understand where you're coming from. (And yeah, the Infinite Crisis one did glide, but the original version didn't...which is weird. :-P)

That's why I was hoping the feathers were actually functional though. As I see it, wearing stupid feathers = Dick. Wearing stupid feathers that actually have a point? = not Dick.

    YMMV though. :-P

And now I see what you're getting at!

Oh Mondays and Sundays, so full of confusion.

Either way, it's still a stupid costume.

    I absolutely agree: It's a stupid costume.

Some preview pages have show him flying via the wings and what looks to be a jetpack, so yes.

according to this interview Tim's wing allow him to glide and deflect bullets. they can also be rigid or flexible and have built in jet packs.

    ugh.

(altho jet packs may be cool)
